The government is moving ahead with plans for a new integrated health care centre in Outlook, as part of The Action Plan for Saskatchewan Health Care.
Health Minister John Nilson has announced $400,000 to plan for a new centre that will be attached to the existing Pioneer Home long-term care facility in Outlook. The centre will replace the existing Outlook Union hospital and provide better co-ordination of acute care, long-term care, home care and community services in one integrated facility.
"The new facility builds on the government's commitment in The Action Plan for Saskatchewan Health Care to improve the quality of health services and access to care for all Saskatchewan residents," Nilson said. "Once completed, the new integrated facility will improve the quality of health care by achieving greater operating efficiencies and co-ordinating the delivery of services under one roof."
Saskatchewan Health is working closely with the Heartland Regional Health Authority to finalize the scope, cost and design of the project.
Heartland Regional Health Authority Board Chair Lyle Leys said this financial commitment from the Government of Saskatchewan is a great step forward for the people in the region.
"The residents of Outlook and area have been extremely supportive of the proposed new integrated health care centre," Leys said. "Fundraising activities have raised $1.7 million to date in cash donations and pledges, and today's announcement from Saskatchewan Health will be welcome news to the residents, health care staff and physicians in the Outlook area."
The total provincial investment of 65 per cent of the approved project cost will be combined with local funding from the Heartland Regional Health Authority, Outlook Town Council, neighbouring rural municipalities and local fundraising efforts.
