UPGRADING SIX SCHOOLS IN THE SASKATOON AREA

Released on June 10, 2003

The provincial government is investing $873,000 on renovations and additions to six schools in the Saskatoon area.

"We are investing in schools, in students, and in the future of Saskatchewan," Learning Minister Judy Junor said.

The capital improvement projects include:

• The Saskatoon Public School Division will receive $250,000 to complete the 2002 additions of a new gymnasium, classrooms, administration area and library at Montgomery School;

• The Saskatoon Catholic School Division will receive $136,000 for two portable classroom additions at Mother Teresa School;

• The Saskatoon Public School Division will receive $96,000 to continue upgrades to the indoor air quality in classrooms at Aden Bowman Collegiate;

• The Saskatoon Public School Division will receive $79,000 to complete the 2002 additions of a new multi-purpose room, additional washroom space and portable classroom upgrades at Lakeridge School; and

• The Saskatoon Catholic School Division will receive $44,000 for roof replacement at Bishop Roborecki School.

The Saskatoon (West) School Division will also receive $268,000 for roof replacement at Delisle Composite School and for renovations and upgrades to the school's gymnasium and administration area.

These projects will be cost-shared with the Saskatoon public and Catholic school divisions and the Saskatoon (West) School Division.

"With the $36 million in the Saskatchewan Learning K-12 capital budget, which includes $4.6 million from the Centenary Fund, approximately 140 K-12 school construction, renovation or upgrading projects will be funded in communities around the province this year," Junor said.

Additional projects in other school divisions throughout the province will be announced over the remainder of the fiscal year to March 31st, 2004.

"This school improvement project is part of the government's commitment to invest in modern, well-equipped learning facilities for Saskatchewan students," Junor said. "Investing in education enriches our communities and ensures a wide open future for Saskatchewan students."
