PROVINCE HONOURS 10-YEAR HOUSING VOLUNTEER

A Beauval man has been honoured for 10 years of volunteer service as a board member of the Beaver River Regional Housing Authority.

Richard Abbey received a certificate of recognition and a commemorative pin recognizing his 10 years of volunteer service. Community Resources and Employment Minister Glenn Hagel, and Athabasca MLA Buckley Belanger were in Beauval to extend congratulations.

"The province's network of 280 housing authorities depends on the selflessness dedication of volunteers like Richard Abbey," Hagel said. "For an entire decade, Mr. Abbey has helped make his province and his community and area a better place to live by his commitment to social housing."

Mr. Abbey continues to serve as chair of the Beaver River Regional Housing Authority, and is one of more than 1,500 housing authority volunteers across Saskatchewan.

Housing authorities are community-based organizations that manage the province's social and affordable housing for seniors, families and persons with disabilities.

The Beaver River Regional Board manages housing units in the communities of Beauval, Sled Lake, Dore Lake, Green Lake, Jans Bay, Pinehouse and Cole Bay. It manages more than 300 units.
