Beef without Borders at Buffalo Days will combine a show of support for the livestock industry with a simulcast of the Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto Rolling Stones concert at the Regina Agridome on July 30th.
"Our government remains committed to doing everything possible to get the border opened and restore the flow of Canadian meat and livestock to our trading partners," Premier Lorne Calvert said. "I want to encourage people to turn out and show our support for and pride in the Saskatchewan livestock industry."
Beef without Borders at Buffalo Days is a partnership involving the Government of Saskatchewan, City of Regina, Regina Exhibition Association, Canadian Western Agribition and Molson.
"I join the residents of Regina, many of whom grew up on farms across this province, as we support Saskatchewan cattle producers," Regina Mayor Pat Fiacco said. "I encourage everyone to come out on July 30th and show just how much we love Canadian beef."
The event will kick off with a salute to the beef industry at approximately 6:00 p.m., followed by the live broadcast from the Toronto concert. Canadian beef will be served in the Agridome and elsewhere throughout the fair grounds. The concert is free with a paid Buffalo Days gate admission.
"We see this as a win-win situation for everyone," General Manager of Regina Exhibition Association Mark Allan said. "It's a way for our organization to show its ongoing support for the beef industry and the entire agricultural sector. For our Buffalo Days visitors, the Stones concert just tops off what we believe is already an outstanding entertainment package. We're really excited about hosting the event."
"People throughout Saskatchewan have stepped up in a huge way to support our livestock producers, and this event can serve as a celebration of the industry in this time of challenge," Canadian Western Agribition General Manager Leon Brin said.
The Toronto concert began as a way to restore that city's image after the SARS crisis, but has since grown to include a quarter-mile barbeque in support of the Canadian livestock industry. Premier Calvert will be on site at the event to promote Saskatchewan beef.
"Molson is thrilled to be able to bring this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to catch the Rolling Stones when they headline the biggest concert ever," Saskatchewan District Sales Manager, Molson, Barry Thomson said. "Music is the perfect way to bring people together and get everyone out with their friends, socializing and having a great time."
A number of cities, including Calgary, St. John's and Regina, are participating in the live simulcast of the concert in order to show their support for and raise awareness of the importance of the livestock industry throughout the country.
