PUBLIC INVITED TO WASCANA LAKE DEEPENING OPEN HOUSE

Released on July 23, 2003

The proposed deepening of Wascana Lake will be the subject of two come-and-go open house sessions tomorrow at Wascana Place, 2900 Wascana Drive.

These sessions are part of the pre-construction engineering work Clifton & Associates is doing on behalf of all three levels of government to determine whether Wascana Lake will be deepened.

"These open houses are an important opportunity for the public to learn more about the project that' being considered. All three levels of government are keenly interested in what the public thinks of the plans being developed to deepen Wascana Lake," Public Works and Government Services Canada Minister Ralph Goodale said.

"Today will be a good opportunity for the public to ask questions of engineering and environmental experts about what impacts deepening Wascana Lake would have on this important landmark," Minister Responsible for Wascana Centre Authority Mark Wartman said. "A project of this magnitude is something that the public really has to be involved in."

"Regina is a great place to live, work and play, and I know that Reginans will be keen to find out more about what's being considered because Wascana is one of the things that makes this city so special," Mayor Pat Fiacco said.

The sessions will take place July 24th, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and will provide information about project plans and impacts. The sessions are designed to increase public awareness and to allow the public to provide comments.

Experts in the areas of engineering, environmental and other technical aspects required for the project will be on hand at both sessions to answer questions, explain proposed plans and receive comments.
