Resurfacing has begun on an 8.32 km section of Highway 16 west of Marshall."Resurfacing is part of our commitment to building better highways," Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "Work on this $1.6 million project is now underway, and should be completed by the end of July. An estimated 24 full-time workers will be needed to complete the project."
Resurfacing will take place on 8.32 km of the westbound lanes of Highway 16 from Marshall west. Anderson Rental and Paving was awarded the resurfacing project.
"Highway 16 is a key east-west trade corridor for Saskatchewan products, and in recent years, this section has experienced an increase in truck traffic, leading to wear and tear," Wartman said. "Maintaining our investment in highways is a priority and the department is working hard to fix roads across the province to enhance trade and improve driver safety."
The government has committed $296.2 million to building better highways in 2003-2004. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved this year.
Motorists are reminded to reduce speed and drive safely through the Orange Zone and to also watch for construction signs and heavy equipment during this season of heavy road construction.
