PROTECTIVE SERVICES MEDAL DESIGN UNVEILED

Released on July 3, 2003

Today Provincial Secretary Joanne Crofford and Chief Cal Johnston of the Regina Police Service, unveiled the design for the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal at the Legislative Building in Regina.

The medal, established by the provincial legislature in May 2003, recognizes individuals who have 25 cumulative years of exemplary service protecting the people of Saskatchewan.

"The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal will honour people who ensure the safety and security of Saskatchewan citizens," Provincial Secretary Joanne Crofford said. "These individuals give so much of themselves so that we can all live more safe and secure lives."

The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal features the St. Edward's Crown and is suspended from a ribbon of green and gold, the provincial colours. It bears a shield with a lion on a stylized western red lily and the motto Qui Civitatem Tuentur, Latin for "who guard the citizenry".

Recipients of the Protective Services Medal will include people who work in
agencies such as Fire Protection Services, Police Services, Canada Customs
and Revenue Agency, Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Emergency Medical Services, Canadian Forces, Park Wardens, Highways and Transportation Transport Compliance Branch, and Federal and Provincial Corrections. A complete list of eligible agencies is available from the Office of Protocol and Honours, Saskatchewan Provincial Secretary.

Individuals who believe they are eligible can submit the appropriate documentation, including proof of eligible years of service, to the head of their current organization. Nominations will be assessed and forwarded to the Office of Protocol and Honours, Saskatchewan Provincial Secretary.
