The province is investing $2.2 million this year as part of its capital plan to improve health care facilities across Saskatchewan."The investment upholds the commitment made in The Action Plan for Saskatchewan Health Care to strengthen and sustain the province's health system into the future," Health Minister John Nilson said.
Regional Health Authorities across the province will use the new funding to pay for projects ranging from installing new roofing to fire safety systems.
Project funding was approved on the basis of priority, developed through consultations between the Regional Health Authorities and the government. With the approval, tendering and construction on the projects can begin immediately.
"The investment demonstrates the government's commitment to put the safety of patients and health providers first," Nilson said. "In keeping with the Action Plan our government is balancing immediate needs with a commitment to ensure the system's long-term sustainability. By providing financial support to the Regional Health Authorities to upgrade these facilities Saskatchewan people are assured a sound health care infrastructure for the future."
Over the next two years the Government of Saskatchewan is investing $61 million for new and upgraded health care facilities to increase access to quality health care.
