A tender has been awarded for resurfacing 10.9 km of Highway 55 near Choiceland. Construction will take place from approximately 8 km west of the Village of Love to 2 km east of the Town of Choiceland on Highway 55."Roadwork on this project is expected to begin in early May, and will be completed during the 2003 construction season," Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "Sixty-seven full-time workers will be employed on this $1.6 million project."
"Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation is committed to building better highways in Saskatchewan," Wartman said. "The project scheduled for the Choiceland area will help improve Highway 55, enhancing a key transportation corridor in northeast Saskatchewan, and supporting regional economic and social development. Sustainable investment in our public infrastructure, such as resurfacing major highways, is essential to our economic future and to maintaining our quality of life."
The government has committed $293 million to building better highways in 2002-2003. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved this year.
