Saskatchewan will celebrate the contributions of farm women to the province during the week of Feb. 2nd to 8th, which has been proclaimed as Farm Women's Week in Saskatchewan.Deputy Premier and Agriculture, Food and Rural Revitalization Minister Clay Serby said the purpose of the special week is to raise awareness and appreciation of the multi-faceted lives farm women lead today, and have led in the past.
"Women are one-half of most farm business partnerships in Saskatchewan. Their contributions to the decision making processes on the farm, in the community and in provincial and federal farm policy are important," Serby said.
"Farm women have made their contributions over the years as individuals and in groups, such as the Women's Institute, the National Farmers Union and the Saskatchewan Women's Agricultura Network."
The Chair of the Saskatchewan Women's Agricultural Network (SWAN) Robin Fenell said the week is an important event for farm women.
"So very often, farm women don't get the recognition they deserve," Fenell said. "By proclaiming Farm Women's Week, we hope to draw attention to the vast number of ways that women are a great asset to the farm."
The week will be held in conjunction with the SWAN annual conference Feb. 7th to 9th; the Swift Current Women's Agricultural Information Day, Feb. 6th; North Battleford's Rural Women's Day Out Conference, Feb. 7th; and Kindersley's Agro-Woman Conference, Feb. 14th.
