PREMIER UNVEILS SECOND PHASE OF FUTURE IS WIDE OPEN CAMPAIGN

Released on January 27, 2003

Saskatchewan is taking its wide-open future message out of the province to business audiences and potential investors as the second phase of the Our Future is Wide Open campaign gets under way.

Premier Lorne Calvert today announced the next phase in the extensive three-year marketing campaign to instill pride, build awareness and increase the visibility of Saskatchewan, as well as promote more business and investment in the province.

"Our Future is Wide Open is changing the way people see Saskatchewan," Calvert said. "The message that we have been delivering is about a province that is brimming with possibility, promise and prospects. We must build upon our momentum."

Phase two, which runs from early February to August, includes print advertising, placed in national publications, that will focus on Saskatchewan's competitive strengths in key industry sectors and the quality of the province's workforce. Promotions on Saskatchewan's business climate and quality of life will appear in major Canadian airports and on flights in Western Canada. Limited television advertising will also run on programs reaching potential business contacts.

Calvert said results from the initial phase of Our Future is Wide Open have laid a strong foundation for out-of-province promotion.

"People from Saskatchewan have responded with pride and enthusiasm to our internal campaign," he said. "National media gave significant coverage to the campaign launch and my promotional tours to Ontario and Alberta. And the business people I met on those visits were impressed with our recent economic growth and investment opportunities in the future."

The premier said increasing the province's visibility requires a long-term, multi-faceted approach, which includes additional business investment trips. To that end, the premier will meet with oil and gas industry leaders in Calgary at the end of February.

Industry and Resources Minister Eldon Lautermilch will leave later today for one of the Canadian mining industry's largest trade shows, the Cordilleran Exploration Roundup in Vancouver. Lautermilch will meet with current and potential investors to promote the Saskatchewan mining industry and its unlimited potential for growth.

Josef Spross, Saskatchewan Mining Association past-president, participated with Calvert and Lautermilch in the unveiling of phase two of Our Future is Wide Open. "Many people are unaware of the significance of our mining industry and our status as the world's leading producer of both potash and uranium. Campaigns such as Our Wide Open Future are important to inform people of our province's economic opportunities and the diverse wealth of untapped mineral resource potential waiting to be develop," Spross said.
