SASKWATER PROVIDES WATER MANAGEMENT SERVICES TO BRUNO

Released on January 6, 2003

The Town of Bruno has become the first of SaskWater's bulk treated water

customers to upgrade its level of service to Total Quality Water Management.

SaskWater has delivered treated water to Bruno for five years. Under the

new agreement SaskWater will share its expertise in the operation and

maintenance of water distribution and wastewater disposal systems,

currently the town's responsibility.

"We're very happy to be recognized by Bruno for the extra value we can

bring to the Town with a higher level of service," Minister Responsible for

SaskWater Ron Osika said. "Partnering with SaskWater will provide the town

with more assurance that their residents are receiving quality water from

source to tap."

The agreement calls for SaskWater to provide Total Quality Water Management

services that include a certified operator, water sampling and monitoring,

water quality reporting to the public, weekly bacteriological sampling, and

wastewater treatment, sampling and disposal. SaskWater will use a 24/7

remote monitoring and alarm system to monitor chlorine residuals.

The community will maintain responsibility for capital repairs and

maintenance of the chlorination equipment, distribution pumps and

watermains, sewage collection system, lift station and the lagoon.

Sandi Murphy, Bruno's Administrator explained why the town decided to

upgrade its level of service with SaskWater. "Safe drinking water is the

number one priority in this community. Town Council has taken an important

step toward building on our community's quality of life by bringing

SaskWater on board to share in the management and distribution of quality

drinking water to residents. We are confident this new system will result

in increased quality, security, reduced labour costs, and will pay for

itself in the long term."

Bruno is located 85 kms east of Saskatoon and has a population of 571.

It's supplied with water by a large regional water supply system SaskWater

owns and operates in the area.
