IMPROVING HIGHWAY 6 NEAR NAICAM

Released on February 25, 2003

A tender has been awarded for resurfacing 10.7 km of Highway 6 near Naicam.

"Roadwork on this project is expected to begin in early June, and should be completed in early July," Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "Twenty-four full-time workers will be employed on this $1.2 Million project."

Resurfacing will take place on Highway 6 from 15.13 north to 25.83 km north of the south Junction of Highways 5 and 6 in Watson. Ramco Paving Ltd. of Regina was awarded the contract.

Material for the project has been crushed and stockpiled in preparation for construction.

"Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation is committed to building better highways in Saskatchewan," said Wartman. "The project scheduled for the Naicam area will help improve Highway 6, enhancing a key transportation corridor in east-central Saskatchewan, and supporting regional economic and social development."

The government has committed $293 million to building better highways in 2002-2003. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved this year.
