A tender has been awarded for resurfacing 9.9 km of Highway 55 southeast of Green Lake.
"Roadwork on this project is expected to begin in late May, and will be completed by the end of August," Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "Forty-four full-time workers will be employed on this $2.4 million project."
Surfacing will take place in three sections: from 0.2 km east to 6.5 km west of the junction with Highway 924; 14.7 km to 15.8 km west of this junction; and 17.8 km to 19.9 km west of this junction. G.W. Construction Ltd. of Buchanan was awarded the contract.
"Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation is committed to building better highways in Saskatchewan," said Wartman. "Highway 55 has seen an increase in truck traffic, leading to wear and tear on these sections. The project scheduled for the Green Lake area will help improve Highway 55, enhancing safety and the efficient transport of goods."
The government has committed $293 million to building better highways in 2002-2003. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved this year.
