A tender has been awarded for resurfacing 8.0 km of Highway 5 from Quill Lake to 8.0 km east, this construction season."We are maintaining our focus on building better highways," Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "Work on this $940,000 resurfacing project is expected to begin in August and should be complete within two weeks. An estimated 20 full-time workers will be needed to complete the project."
Work will commence shortly on gravel crushing and stockpiling in preparation for construction.
Anderson Rental and Paving Ltd. of Saskatoon was awarded the resurfacing contract.
"Highway 5 has seen an increase in truck traffic, leading to wear and tear on this highway," Wartman said. "We are resurfacing a section of the highway, as it has deteriorated over the past number of years. This project links with our vision of a safe, modern and efficient transportation system that supports economic growth and social well-being across our province."
The government of Saskatchewan has committed $293 million for building better highways in 2002-2003.
This project was identified in the recent Winter Tender Schedule for Saskatchewan highway work valued at $70.9 million. It highlighted 36 different highway improvement projects, with a length of 490 km that are planned to be completed in the 2003-2004 construction season. The Winter Tender Schedule ensures plans are in place early to provide timely and efficient delivery of highway improvements when construction begins in the spring.
