A tender has been awarded for surfacing 10.22 km of Highway 31 Northwest of Kerrobert and for production and stockpiling of aggregate.
"Roadwork on this project is expected to begin in late June, and will be completed by the end of August," Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "Fifty full-time workers will be employed on this $2.2 million project."
Resurfacing will take place on Highway 31 from 34.65 km west to 44.87 km west of the Junction with Highway 21. Warner Construction Co. Ltd. of Regina was awarded the contract.
"Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation is committed to building better highways in Saskatchewan," said Wartman. "Highway 31 has seen an increase in truck traffic, leading to wear and tear on these sections. The project scheduled for the Kerrobert area will help improve Highway 31, enhancing safety and the efficient transport of goods."
The government has committed $293 million to building better highways in 2002-2003. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved this year.
