IMPROVING HIGHWAY 13 NEAR ASSINIBOIA

Released on February 19, 2003

A tender has been awarded for a $1.9 million highway construction project that will employee 38 full-time workers in the Assiniboia area.

"Roadwork on this project is expected to begin in early June, and will be completed during the 2003 construction season," Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "This project links with our vision of a safe, modern and efficient transportation system that supports economic growth and social well-being across our province."

Resurfacing will take place from .6 km west of the Junction with Highway 2 at Assiniboia to 16.5 km west. W.F. Botkin Construction Ltd. of Regina was awarded the contract.

"Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation is committed to building better highways in Saskatchewan," said Wartman. "The project scheduled for the Assiniboia area will help improve Highway 13, enhancing a key transportation corridor in south-central Saskatchewan, and supporting regional economic and social development."

The government has committed $293 million to building better highways in 2002-2003. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved this year.
