NEW CALL CENTRE CREATES JOBS IN REGINA

Released on February 4, 2003

An international company that manages business processes for other firms has chosen Regina as the site for its newest call centre, meaning hundreds of new jobs for local residents.

StarTek Inc. plans to open its inbound call centre on the 3rd floor of downtown Regina's Cornwall Centre in April 2003. The company expects to create 800 jobs over the course of the year.

"StarTek is an outstanding addition to the corporate communities in both Saskatchewan and Regina," Industry and Resources Minister Eldon Lautermilch said. "Our province has cultivated an excellent environment for call centres. That environment, along with our competitive business climate and talented work force, should enable StarTek to prosper in Saskatchewan's wide open future."

Bill Meade, StarTek's CEO commented, "We are delighted to open our 16th facility in Regina, Saskatchewan. Regina offers StarTek a large pool of well-educated and motivated people who can help us provide the service excellence for which we are known. We look forward to becoming a vital and contributing member of the Saskatchewan community."

"I'm pleased that StarTek has chosen Regina for their newest call centre," Regina Mayor Pat Fiacco said. "The 800 jobs will mean a great deal to our economy and downtown revitalization. In choosing Regina, StarTek recognized our expertise in communications technology, low cost of doing business, and high quality lifestyle."

Saskatchewan's Strategic Initiatives Fund is contributing $750,000 to SIAST to assist in establishing a training lab for StarTek's call centre including technical equipment, trainer relocation expenses and other training-related costs. The Job Start/Future Skills Program is also contributing $1.04 million to help train staff.

"Saskatchewan Learning is proud to be part of the team that is bringing StarTek to Regina," Learning Minister Jim Melenchuk said. "Our key role will be to help train up to 800 people for new jobs at the call centre."

StarTek's clients are predominantly in the software, Internet, E-commerce, technology and communications industries. Regina becomes the company's fourth Canadian location and complements other StarTek facilities in Colorado, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Wyoming, the United Kingdom and Singapore. Forbes magazine named StarTek one of America's top 200 Best Small Companies for 2002.
