Six new members from around the province have been appointed to the provincial Multitype Library Board.The Multitype Library Board has been instrumental in providing Saskatchewan residents with free online access to 4,500 newspapers and magazines at www.lib.sk.ca. Saskatchewan is the only jurisdiction in Canada to provide this service to all residents.
The new members are:
Stephanie Olson, Resource Based Learning Consultant and Teacher-Librarian, Thunder Creek School Division, Lindale School;
Frank Winter, Director of Libraries, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon;
Rian Misfeldt, Acting Program Head for Library Services, SIAST Wascana Campus Library, Regina;
Lalita Martfeld, Library Technician, John Dolan Resource Centre, Saskatchewan Association for Community Living, Saskatoon;
Phyllis Lerat, College Librarian, Saskatchewan Indian Federated College Library, Regina; and
Cheryl Avery, Head, University of Saskatchewan Archives, Saskatoon.
Re-appointed members are:
Audrey Mark, Library Director, Pahkisimon Nuye?áh Library System, La Ronge; and
Brenda Kondra, Homemaker, Saskatchewan School Trustees Association, Yorkton;
Five members also continue their term:
Merrilee Rasmussen, Chair of the Multitype Library Board, Barrister & Solicitor, Regina;
Susan Powelson, Director, Health Sciences Library, Regina Health District, Regina;
Carol Shepstone, Research Officer/Librarian, Centre for the Study of Co-operatives, Saskatoon; and
Joylene Campbell, Provincial Librarian, Regina; and
Hélène Stewart, Information Management Advisory, Information Technology Office, Indian Head;
"Libraries are an integral part of our growing knowledge-based economy," Learning Minister Jim Melenchuk said. "I am honoured these professionals are dedicating their knowledge, time and energy to develop a multitype library system that shares services and resources for the benefit of all the Saskatchewan residents. The Multitype Library Board provides the strategic plan to ensure the systems meet the needs of Saskatchewan people now and into the future."
The board ensures co-operative development of services by all library sectors in Saskatchewan, including public, post-secondary education, school and special libraries, and other information providers.
