CHANGES TO SASKPOWER BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Released on December 22, 2003

Hon. Frank Quennell, Minister Responsible for SaskPower, today announced the appointment of Patricia Quaroni, as Acting Chairperson for the SaskPower Board of Directors effective January 1, 2004.

The appointment comes as a result of the departure of Dr. David Barnard, President of the University of Regina, who has resigned due to numerous other professional demands. Dr. Barnard has served on the Board for the last three years, and as chairperson since October, 2001.

"Dr. Barnard's strategic focus with SaskPower has been instrumental in moving forward a number of key initiatives including windpower development, the environmentally preferred power program, new capital infrastructure, and many infrastructure retrofits to reduce the effects of greenhouse gas emissions, " said Minister Quennell. "His leadership style and directional guidance demonstrated exemplary commitment and impressive contribution."

Ms. Quaroni, who was appointed to the SaskPower Board in 2000, and has served as Vice-Chair of the Board, is a partner with the Olive, Waller, Zinkhan and Waller law firm in Regina. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan, obtaining her law degree, with distinction, in 1987. She was admitted to the Law Society of Saskatchewan in 1988, and is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and Regina Bar Association. She has previously served as a part-time member of the Saskatchewan Municipal Board, Assessment Appeals Committee and is Past President of Youth Unlimited of Regina. Ms. Quaroni is also an active member of Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan.

Other changes to Board structure include implementation of Crown restructure directive by Premier Calvert removing Crown presidents as sitting members of the Board.

Current members of SaskPower's Board of Directors include: Larry Braun, Saskatoon, Mel Watson, Weyburn, V. Lynne Pearson, Saskatoon, Neil B. Collins, Estevan, Keith Rissling, Saskatoon, Al Macatavish, Winnipeg, Janet Wightman, Regina, Marty Klyne, Regina, and Deb Schmidt, Yorkton.
