Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock presented the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal to 34 recipients at Government House in Regina today. The medal recognizes individuals who have 25 cumulative years of exemplary service protecting the people of Saskatchewan or their property.Recipients receiving the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal at the ceremony today include RCMP members from Regina, Big River, and Fort Qu'Appelle; municipal police from Regina; fire protection personnel from Regina; Highways and Transportation personnel from Regina; and an emergency medical technician from Moosomin.
"The Protective Services Medal is a welcome addition to Saskatchewan's honours and awards program," Provincial Secretary Joan Beatty said. "This medal allows us to formally recognize the tremendous contributions of the courageous men and women who make our lives more safe and secure in Saskatchewan."
The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal was announced by Premier Lorne Calvert in 2002. The medal is part of the Saskatchewan Honours Program that includes the Saskatchewan Order of Merit and the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. The provincial Office of Protocol and Honours administers the program in close co-operation with the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Saskatchewan Firefighters Association and other agencies whose personnel are eligible for the honour.
