NEW COMMUNITY-TEACHER ENGAGEMENT FUND DEADLINE EXTENDED

Released on December 2, 2003

The deadline for applications for the new Community-Teacher Engagement Fund to support SchoolPLUS programs has been extended by one month to December 31st, 2003.

"The Community-Teacher Engagement Fund demonstrates the province's ongoing commitment to SchoolPLUS. As this is a new fund, the application deadline extension to December 31st provides more opportunity for interested parties to submit applications," Learning Minister Andrew Thomson said.

Seven government departments are contributing up to $1.1 million through this fund over the next five years. This year the fund will provide grants up to $10,000 to a minimum of 10 sites chosen through an application process.

The funds will provide opportunities at the community and school level for teachers, human service providers, families and communities to work together on local initiatives to advance SchoolPLUS.

"Organizations that receive funding for projects will provide valuable examples as we look to a future when SchoolPLUS is adopted by all Saskatchewan schools. In addition to the high-quality education provided, Saskatchewan schools through SchoolPLUS will develop into centres where other human services and supports will be delivered," Thomson said.
