Resurfacing has begun on 13.1 km of Highway 4 south of Swift Current."This resurfacing is part of our commitment to building better highways," Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "Work on this $2.6 million project is now underway, and should be completed by mid-October. An estimated 53 full-time workers will be needed to complete the project."
Resurfacing will begin at the Highway 43 junction and continue for 13.1 km north. ASL Paving of Saskatoon was awarded the project.
"Highway 4 is an important route for Saskatchewan motorists in the western part of the province and into the United States. In recent years, this section has experienced an increase in truck traffic, leading to wear and tear," Wartman said. "Maintaining our investment in pavements is a priority and Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation is working hard to fix roads across the province to enhance trade and improve driver safety."
The province has committed $296.2 million to building better highways in 2003-2004. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved this year.
Motorists are reminded to reduce speed and drive safely through the Orange Zone, and to also watch for construction signs and heavy equipment during this season of road construction.
