Construction will soon be underway on a major expansion and renovation at St. Mary High School in Prince Albert that will be completed in time for the 2004-05 school year. The Saskatchewan government is contributing $10 million to this $13.9 million project, sharing the cost with the Prince Albert Roman Catholic Separate School Division."We are investing in schools, in students, and in the future of Saskatchewan," Learning Minister Judy Junor said at the ceremonial sod turning. "The existing St. Mary High School has served students very well for close to 40 years. However, the time has come to upgrade the facility and provide more program space. The school needs to grow along with the community."
The expansion will will almost double the size of the existing school and will include additional space for child care, community school programming and classroom space, and a new gymnasium.
"We are delighted that St. Mary High School was recently designated a community high school which will provide expanded programs and supports to our students and our community for many years to come," said Cindy Gee, Prince Albert Roman Catholic Separate School Division Board Chair. "To be breaking ground on our new addition and renovated space, is an exciting time for everyone connected to the school."
The government first announced funding to begin planning the addition and renovation of the school in November of 2001.
"This project is part of the government's commitment to invest in modern, well-equipped learning facilities for Saskatchewan students," Junor added.
