Amendments introduced today to The Provincial Emblems and Honours Act will establish two new provincial honours: the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal and the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal.The Protective Services Medal will recognize exemplary service of 25 years in Saskatchewan for law enforcement personnel and those working in a direct capacity to protect the people of Saskatchewan or their property.
"All of us rely on the contributions and sacrifices made by safety and security personnel," Provincial Secretary Joanne Crofford said. "These legislative amendments allow us to honour these individuals and focus attention on the efforts and work of police, fire, emergency, and many other professionals working in the field of safety and security."
Crofford said that another amendment will also allow for Centennial Medals to be awarded in 2005, when the province celebrates its 100th anniversary. This Medal will recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to society and will honour their outstanding achievements.
The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal and the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal will be part of the provincial honours program that includes the Saskatchewan Order of Merit and the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal.
