The Government of Saskatchewan today introduced amendments to The Agricultural Implements Act that will better meet the needs of farmers, implement dealers and manufacturers.Deputy Premier and Agriculture, Food and Rural Revitalization Minister Clay Serby said the changes will ensure farmers leasing machinery are protected under the warranty, repair and parts provisions of the Act.
"The amendments will also change warranty provisions so that they will apply from date of first use of the agricultural equipment, rather than date of delivery," Serby said.
The Agricultural Implements Act was last changed in 1979. This update ensures the legislation reflects current industry practices and makes it more consistent with legislation in place in Alberta and Manitoba.
The amendments were developed through consultations with stakeholders including the Saskatchewan Agricultural Implements Board; the Agricultural Manufacturers of Canada (formerly the Prairie Implement Manufacturers Association); the Canada West Equipment Dealers Association; the Canadian Farm and Industrial Equipment Institute; the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities; the Agricultural Producers' Association of Saskatchewan; and financial institutions.
