RESURFACING ON HIGHWAY 9 NORTH OF YORKTON

Released on October 29, 2002

Resurfacing a 1 km section of Highway 9 at Yorkton and construction of an

intersection treatment 1.6 km north of York Road is nearly complete.

"Resurfacing is part of our commitment to building better highways,"

Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "The project has

helped revitalize Highway 9 - enhancing business and social opportunities

in the area."

The $350,000 improvement project on Highway 9 began 0.7 km north of the

junction of Highways 9 and 16. Some remaining surface treatment work will

be completed next construction season. Potzus Paving and Road Maintenance

Ltd. of Yorkton was the contractor on this job.

"In Saskatchewan, highways are a lifeline - connecting us to one another

and driving economic development," Wartman said. "The completed

improvements to Highway 9 demonstrate once again that transportation is a

priority for the Government of Saskatchewan."

The government has committed $293 million to building better highways in

2002-03. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved this

year.

Motorists are reminded to reduce speed and drive safely through the Orange

Zone and watch for construction signs and heavy equipment during the

remainder of this busy construction season.
