GRADING FINISHED NEAR CORNING ACCESS

Released on October 29, 2002

Grading is complete on a 9.8 km section of Highway 47 north of Corning.

"This grading is part of our commitment to building better highways,"

Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said.

The $648,000 improvement project on Highway 47 began north of the Corning

Access, and continued north for 9.8 km. Kay's Construction Inc. was the

contractor on the job.

"Highway 47 has experienced an increase in truck traffic, leading to wear

and tear on the road surface," Wartman said. "This section of highway has

been upgraded to better serve the economy of the area."

The government has committed $293 million to building better highways in

2002-03. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved this

year.

Motorists are reminded to reduce speed and drive safely through the Orange

Zone and watch for construction signs and heavy equipment during the

remainder of this busy construction season.
