Residents of Caskey Place in Melfort are enjoying an enhanced quality oflife, following a $278,000 expansion and renovation of the common area of
their seniors' project.
Funding was provided by the province, with a five per cent contribution
from the City of Melfort.
"Our seniors helped build Saskatchewan, and we are committed to ensuring
they have adequate, suitable, affordable housing in their retirements,"
Social Services Minister Glenn Hagel said at the official ribbon
cutting. "The expansion and renovation of Caskey Place has improved social
and recreational opportunities, enriching the lifestyles of residents."
The 131-square-metre expansion includes a new kitchen, laundry and storage
areas, two wheelchair-accessible washrooms and an expanded dining-lounge
area. The existing common-area space was also renovated and reconfigured.
"We are pleased to have partnered with the province in the improvements at
Caskey Place," Melfort Mayor Dub Henderson said. "I'd like to thank the
Melfort Housing Authority for initiating this worthy initiative, and seeing
it through to completion."
The expansion and renovation at Caskey Place allows for a daily meal
program, exercise programs, arts and crafts, special suppers,
entertainment, and other social gatherings.
Caskey Place is a 44-unit row-style housing project for seniors managed on
behalf of the province by the Melfort Housing Authority.
