An inquest into the death of Peter Pokjowy will be held Monday, November4th, 2002, at 10:00 am at the Riverbend Institution in Prince Albert.
Pokjowy, aged 72, died on February 3rd, 2002 at the River Bend Institution,
a federal minimum security correctional facility. Pokjowy was an inmate at
the Riverbend Institution at the time of his death.
Section 20 of The Coroners Act, 1999 requires an inquest to be held when an
inmate dies in a jail, penitentiary, lock-up or correctional facility.
In addition to establishing when and where the death occurred and the
medical cause of the death, the Coroner's jury may make recommendations to
prevent similar deaths in the future. Inquests are open to the public.
The presiding coroner will be June Merasty of Prince Albert.
