GARBAGE AT TROUT POND NETS $540 FINE

Released on November 27, 2002

A Hudson Bay resident was recently convicted of illegally dumping garbage

at the Hudson Bay trout pond, fined $540 and ordered by the court to clean

up the garbage.

An investigation began when Hudson Bay conservation officers received a

complaint of illegal dumping at the trout pond. The Investigation revealed

that a burning barrel containing household garbage and miscellaneous metal

items had been thrown out at the trout pond.

A littering charge was laid and the person charged was ordered to clean up

the garbage immediately. Prior to court, conservation officers noted that

the burning barrel and contents remained at the trout pond and had not been

cleaned up. Based on this information, the court assessed a penalty

reflecting the circumstances.

Saskatchewan Environment reminds everyone that Hudson Bay's landfill is the

place to deposit all garbage. Anyone who is aware of, or suspects

environmental, wildlife or fisheries abuse is encouraged to make use of the

province's toll-free Turn In Poachers (TIP) line at 1-800-667-7561 or

contact their nearest Saskatchewan Environment office.
