FUNDING FOR THE WESTERN DEVELOPMENT MUSEUM

Released on November 26, 2002

The province is providing $650,000 in Centenary Funds to support the

Western Development Museum's series of new interactive exhibits. The funds

are being shared by each of the museum's branches in Yorkton, North

Battleford, Moose Jaw and Saskatoon.

"The Western Development Museum is using this money to create innovative

and exciting displays that will chronicle the growth and change of

Saskatchewan's people and communities throughout the last 100 years,"

Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Joanne Crofford said. "The new

exhibits will celebrate the Saskatchewan experience and help strengthen our

sense of identity as we approach our Centennial year."

The museum will unveil the Winning the Prairie Gamble exhibits in 2005, in

time for the province's centennial celebrations.

"Our new exhibits will highlight the achievements and accomplishments of

Saskatchewan's people, communities and businesses as well as significant

events that helped shape our province's history," Western Development

Museum Executive Director David Klatt said.

This is the second year of Centenary funding to the Western Development

Museum. The Centenary Fund will leave a legacy of Saskatchewan's

centennial for future generations. It supports specific infrastructure

needs related to housing, education, heritage properties, parks, highways,

environmental clean-up and municipal infrastructure.

More information on the Winning the Prairie Gamble project can be found on

the Western Development Museum's Web site at www.wdm.ca.
