VOLUNTARY SECTOR FRAMEWORK DOCUMENT COMPLETE

Released on November 25, 2002

Premier Calvert today received the Voluntary Sector Initiative framework

document that will help the provincial government and Saskatchewan's

voluntary sector work more effectively together for the benefit of

Saskatchewan communities.

"This initiative sets the foundations for a constructive, responsive and

effective relationship between our government and Saskatchewan's volunteer

groups and organizations," Premier Calvert said. "Our province has an

enviable system of organizations and groups that contribute to our quality

of life. The Voluntary Sector Initiative will help them achieve their

goals.

Doreen Hamilton, MLA for Regina Wascana Plains, led the initiative's

steering committee with the help of vice-chairs David Forbes, MLA for

Saskatoon Idylwyld and Keith Goulet, MLA for Cumberland. The committee is

composed of 14 representatives from the voluntary sector and

representatives from 11 government departments that interact with the

voluntary sector.

"The framework outlines the history of volunteerism in Saskatchewan and

includes an inventory of current Government of Saskatchewan interactions

with volunteer groups and organizations," Hamilton said. "It defines the

vision, values, principles and objectives of our working relationship.

These points give committee members a starting place from which to build."
