People in Montmartre are enjoying a new regional library thanks to a$60,000 grant from the province's Centenary Fund.
Government Relations Minister Ron Osika, Deputy Mayor Cal Abrahamson, and
Reeve Leo Ferraton cut the ribbon officially opening the new building.
The regional library, formerly located in the old fire hall, increased from
the 56 square metre (600 square foot) space to a 149 square metre (1600
square foot) facility that can accommodate community programs. The
building will house both the Village and R.M. municipal offices. The total
cost of the project was $242,000. In addition to the province's
contribution, the Village and Rural Municipality of Montmartre provided the
remaining $182,000.
"The Government of Saskatchewan is pleased to support initiatives like this
library and municipal office facility as an excellent way of celebrating
our province's 100th anniversary," Osika said. "Saskatchewan libraries
have always played an essential role in the educational, recreational and
cultural lives of our province."
"The Village of Montmartre is very pleased that the provincial government
is celebrating Saskatchewan's 100th anniversary through its contributions
from the Centenary Fund," Montmartre Mayor Paul Hamelin said. "The new
library is important to Montmartre as it contributes to the social and
economic well-being of our community."
The Centenary Fund was established to leave a legacy of Saskatchewan's
centennial for future generations. Leading up to the centennial
celebrations in 2005, the government is funding projects that are of
provincial or regional interest and develop municipal infrastructure.
