An inquest into the death of Duane Bauman will take place December 10th to13th, 2002, at 10:00 am at the Court of Queen's Bench, 520 Spadina Crescent
East, Saskatoon.
Bauman, aged 57, was taken into police custody on September 26th, 2001. He
was placed in a police cell in detention. Police later found Bauman
deceased in the police cell.
Section 20 of The Coroners Act, 1999, requires an inquest to be held when
an inmate dies in a jail, penitentiary, lock-up or correctional facility.
In addition to establishing when and where the death occurred and medical
cause of the death, the Coroner's jury may make recommendations to prevent
similar deaths in the future. Inquests are open to the public.
The presiding coroner will be Jeff Grubb of Regina.
