PREMIER TAKES ATTITUDE CAMPAIGN TO ALBERTA

Released on November 12, 2002

Premier Lorne Calvert is promoting Saskatchewan's investment opportunities

and economic climate in Edmonton tomorrow as part of Our Future is Wide

Open, the government's new three-year marketing campaign.

The Premier will address a special breakfast meeting of the Edmonton

Chamber of Commerce and encourage the business leaders to take a new look

at the changing face of Saskatchewan. The Premier will also host an

evening reception for Saskatchewan university alumni and expatriates.

"We have a strong economic story to tell about Saskatchewan and we're

committed to sharing that story with business and investment audiences

right across the country, as well as here at home," Calvert said. "The

business groups I've talked to thus far are excited and, in many cases,

surprised by our successes in the past several years and our innovative

firsts in business and technology.

"We feel our message will have special interest for Alberta business

people, resulting in large part from the major oil and gas royalty and tax

changes we recently introduced."

Our Future is Wide Open kicked off last week with television, radio and

print advertising and speaking engagements involving the Premier in Toronto

and Ottawa. The campaign is aimed at improving Saskatchewan's image both

inside the province and across Canada. It is part of the government's

ongoing commitment to improve attitudes about the province and promote

business and investment in Saskatchewan.

"When we developed Saskatchewan's Partnership for Prosperity strategy, we

heard loud and clear from our business leaders that we need to raise

awareness about the province's competitive strengths," Calvert said. The

current campaign addresses these concerns and builds on in-province

campaigns conducted in the past two years, including The Saskatchewan Dream

and Only in Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan is gaining economic momentum with increased development in the

oil and gas industry, new opportunities for mineral exploration,

technological advancements like the Synchrotron project, and development of

an ethanol industry. The province has also recorded three consecutive

months of record employment.

"We have a lot to be proud of and a future that's wide open as we head into

Saskatchewan's centennial in 2005. Through our Investment Attraction

Council, we are pursuing new investment partnerships, actively seeking out

new businesses for the province, and spreading the message that

Saskatchewan is a place of opportunity."
