$3.3 MILLION INVESTMENT IN MEADOW LAKE LEARNING CENTRE

Released on November 8, 2002

The North West Post-Secondary Centre in Meadow Lake is expanding with a

$3.3 million investment from Saskatchewan Learning in North West Regional

College.

The funding was announced in Meadow Lake today by the Learning Minister Jim

Melenchuk and Crown Investments Corporation Minister Maynard Sonntag.

"Investing in education and training is one of the best ways to ensure the

success of our province," Melenchuk said. "Improving facilities throughout

the province is part of our commitment to maintaining and enhancing quality

education and training."

"North West Regional College and other post-secondary institutions deliver

education and training to meet the growing needs of the people and

industries of the Meadow Lake Region," Sonntag said. "It is one of the

keys to the continuing economic growth of the region."

"Training locally, in response to regional business and industry needs, is

a focus of North West Regional College," Chair of North West Regional

College Sherman Krahenbil said. "The expanded facility will provide a

positive learning environment for students and reiterates the college's

commitment to this community and to our educational partners."

"Expansion of the North West Post-Secondary Centre will allow for

consolidation of the college's Meadow Lake activities, and those of other

partner institutions, under a single roof," North West Regional College

President Bryan Nylander said. "Clients in the north west can access a

broad array of quality programming, career counselling, and student support

through the centre."

The expanded centre is adjacent to Carpenter High School and is operated by

the college. Programs of other training institutions, including

Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies, Saskatchewan Indian

Federated College, Dumont Technical Institute, University of Regina,

University of Saskatchewan, and SIAST are delivered at the centre.

North West is one of eight Regional Colleges in Saskatchewan that deliver

basic education and university and technical programs from Saskatchewan's

post-secondary institutions.
