The Royal Saskatchewan Museum (RSM) has introduced another fun online wayto learn about Saskatchewan's plants, animals and ecosystems.
The museum launched six online interactive learning centres (ILCs) today,
covering the different techniques plants and animals use to survive winter,
the ways plants and animals get the energy and nutrients they need,
techniques plants and animals use to ward off predators, what organisms do
to produce the next generation, and the human impact on ecosystems.
"Understanding our natural heritage is an important step toward
understanding who we are and how we want to shape our future," Culture,
Youth and Recreation Minister Joanne Crofford said. "The RSM's interactive
learning centres open the doors for everyone with access to the Internet to
a fascinating world of facts, figures and fun. The learning centres are
going to become a very popular feature for young people throughout the
province."
The online ILCs parallel the learning centres at the RSM's Life Sciences
Gallery which give students and visitors interactive computer-based
displays and permanent graphics to help them explore the various themes in
the gallery.
Adaptation of the learning centres to the Internet was funded through an
$85,000 grant from the federal Department of Canadian Heritage, Museums
Assistance Program.
Discover the wonders of our natural world and our place in it by clicking
on the ILC button in the RSM Web site at www.royalsaskmuseum.ca. The
government fully funds the RSM as part of its commitment to give the people
of Saskatchewan an appreciation and understanding of our natural and
cultural heritage.
