Saskatchewan students and job hunters now have a new interactive tool toteach them how to use the Internet to look for work. It's called SaskWork
Guide and it was developed through a partnership between Saskatchewan
Learning, Saskatchewan Social Services and Human Resources Development
Canada. The official launch was held today at Miller Comprehensive High
School.
SaskWork Guide helps users search for work, write a resume, investigate the
labour market, explore self-employment options and discover resources for
special needs.
"The SaskWork Guide is the latest in an exciting series of Labour Market
Information resources designed to meet the needs of Saskatchewan people,"
Public Works Minister Ralph Goodale said on behalf of Human Resources
Development Canada Minister Jane Stewart. "This online tutorial is an
excellent complement to the other products developed under the joint
Federal-Provincial Labour Market Information Strategy." Those products
include Saskatchewan Job Futures and Job Chart, the Saskatchewan Employment
Demand Forecast, and the Canadian Occupational Projection Forecast.
"The SaskWork Guide is an online tutor to teach people about the knowledge,
skills and attitudes they need to search for work and be successful in the
work world," Learning Minister Jim Melenchuk said. "Today's effective job
search involves learning how to use the Internet to find information about
jobs, plan a career, explore self-employment options, and analyse the
labour market."
"This new online tool will be helpful to Social Services in its work with
Saskatchewan people to find employment," Social Services Minister Glenn
Hagel said. "It is another way to provide our citizens with information
they need to take advantage of the many job opportunities available right
here in Saskatchewan. Connecting people with jobs will help us continue to
reduce social assistance caseloads and lower the incidence of child and
family poverty."
The SaskWork Guide is found on www.sasknetwork.ca under SaskJobs.
SaskNetWork is a comprehensive Web site for career, employment and labour
market information for students, job hunters, guidance counsellors and
employers. It is supported by Saskatchewan Learning and Human Resources
Development Canada. Almost 5 million users access SaskNetWork each year.
Public Internet access is available at the 20 Canada-Saskatchewan Career
and Employment Services offices around the province and at most public
libraries. For more information, contact the Career Information Hotline at
1-800-597-8278.
The joint Labour Market Information Strategy is part of the Canada-
Saskatchewan Labour Market Development Agreement. To date, the Federal-
Provincial partners have contributed more than $250,000 to the development
of joint Labour Market Information Resources.
