A tender has been awarded for resurfacing 11.6 km of Highway 13 betweenArcola and Kisbey this construction season.
"We are maintaining our focus on fixing the roads," Highways and
Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "Work on this $2.6 million
resurfacing project will begin in early June, 2002, and should be completed
by mid August. Completion of this job will require an estimated 86 full-
time workers."
The improvement project on Highway 13 will begin at the west outskirts of
Arcola and will continue for 11.6 km west to Kisbey. The project will also
include the removal of three bridges and one timber-framed culvert. Work
will begin in April on gravel crushing and stockpiling in preparation for
construction.
"Highway 13 has experienced an increase in truck traffic, leading to
rutting and rough sections," Wartman said. "We are resurfacing it to
repair the deterioration which has taken place in recent years.
Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation is working hard to fix roads
across the province to improve driver safety."
Langenburg Redi-Mix Ltd. was awarded the resurfacing contract.
This project was identified in the 2001/2002 Winter Tender Schedule for
Saskatchewan highway work, worth an estimated $86.8 million. The Winter
Tender Schedule ensures timely and efficient delivery of highway
improvements this spring.
Other improvement projects planned for Highway 13 this construction season
include resurfacing 20.6 km west of Pangman and 25 km west and east of
Lafleche. Last season, a total of 42 km of Highway 13 was resurfaced near
Weyburn, Assiniboia and Stoughton.
The department's budget this year is $311.7 million, which will help to
resurface and upgrade 550 km of rural and northern highways.
