NEW CHIEF MEDICAL HEALTH OFFICER APPOINTED

Deputy Minister of Health Glenda Yeates today announced the appointment of

Dr. Ross Findlater as Saskatchewan's new Chief Medical Health Officer. The

Chief Medical Health Officer is the primary advisor to Saskatchewan Health

on matters related to public health, with specific focus on disease

prevention, health promotion and protection.



"We are very pleased that Dr. Findlater has agreed to serve the province in

this capacity," said Yeates. "Dr. Findlater is a certified specialist

trained in Community Medicine, and has extensive knowledge of public health

issues in Saskatchewan. He has served as both Medical Health Officer and

Deputy Medical Health Officer for the Regina Health District, and as Chair

of the Medical Health Officer Council of Saskatchewan."



Dr. Findlater takes over from Dr. David Butler-Jones, who has filled this

position on a part-time basis over the past several years. Dr. Butler-

Jones indicated that he wished to focus on his clinical and teaching work

with the College of Medicine's Family Practice Unit in Regina. He will

also be the Medical Health Officer for the Regional Health Authority in the

southeast area of the province (which includes the former South Central,

Moose Mountain and South East Health Districts).
