LIQUOR STORES OPEN SUNDAYS AND HOLIDAYS

Released on July 22, 2002

A number of liquor stores will be open for business on Sundays and most

statutory holidays, beginning next weekend.

Ron Osika, Minister Responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming

Authority, today announced 23 stores in 19 communities will begin opening

on Sundays and most statutory holidays, effective July 28th.

"We are making this move to improve service to our customers, and to bring

Saskatchewan's liquor distribution system in line with the current retail

environment in Saskatchewan," Osika said.

"Sunday liquor sales are not new in Saskatchewan. Since the early 1990s,

off-sales and franchises have had the option of opening on Sundays and

holidays. Opening some liquor stores for limited hours on Sundays and most

holidays will provide greater convenience for customers."

The list of affected stores is attached. These stores will be open from

noon until 6 p.m. every Sunday and statutory holiday with the exception of

Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Remembrance Day, Christmas Day and New Year's

Day. Six of the locations will be open on Sundays and holidays during the

summer season only, reverting to regular hours on October 15th.

"We are very pleased to offer this enhanced service to our customers,"

Osika said. "We anticipate this service improvement will be welcomed in

these communities."
