The Provincial Government is investing over $1 million on improvements toseven schools in Saskatoon.
"We are investing in schools, in students, and in the future of
Saskatchewan," Learning Minister Jim Melenchuk said.
The capital improvement projects include:
Montgomery School which will receive $350,000 in provincial
government funding for the addition of a new gymnasium, classrooms,
administration area and library;
Holy Cross High School which will receive $181,000 to replace the
gymnasium floor;
Lakeridge School which will receive $179,000 for the addition of a
new multi-purpose room, additional washroom space and portable
classroom upgrades announced in 2002;
Evan Hardy Collegiate which will receive $130,000 to upgrade the
school's mechanical and ventilation systems;
Aden Bowman Collegiate which will receive $71,000 to improve indoor
air quality in the classrooms;
Bishop Roborecki School which will receive $6,000 for wheelchair
accessibility; and
St.Goretti Community School which will receive $245,000 for
renovations to the permanent portion of the school that will allow
for a community school function, as well as to upgrade the school's
administration area.
These projects will be cost shared with the Saskatoon public and Catholic
school divisions.
"With $40 million in the Department of Learning's capital budget for
schools, approximately 140 school construction, renovation or upgrading
projects will be funded in communities around the province this year,"
Melenchuk said. "An additional $20 million for school facilities was made
available, over a four year period, from the Centenary Fund which was
announced in 2000."
Additional projects will be announced throughout the province in the next
few weeks.
"These school improvement projects are part of the government's commitment
to invest in modern, well-equipped learning facilities for Saskatchewan
students," Melenchuk added.
