Dalmeny High School will be making plans for an addition and renovations. The provincial government has approved funding of $100,000 for planning and
design of a partial replacement and expansion of the school. Construction
will likely begin next year and be completed in time for the 2004-05 school
year.
"We are investing in schools, in students, and in the future of
Saskatchewan," Learning Minister Jim Melenchuk said. "Dalmeny High School
has served students very well for close to 50 years. However, the time has
come to upgrade the school and provide the program space required in a more
modern educational facility."
Details of the addition and renovations will be determined during the
planning phase, which will take about a year. Construction costs will be
determined in the next few months, and will be shared by Saskatchewan
Learning and the Saskatoon (West) School Division.
"This project is part of the government's commitment to invest in modern,
well-equipped learning facilities for Saskatchewan students," Melenchuk
added.
With $40 million in the Department of Learning capital budget for schools,
approximately 140 school construction, renovation and upgrading projects
will be funded in communities around the province this fiscal year. An
additional $20 million over four years is available for school facilities
from the Centenary Fund, which was announced in 2000.
