NEW SCHOOL TO BE BUILT IN CABRI

Released on July 2, 2002

Cabri is celebrating news of a new K-12 School to be built in time for the

2004-05 school year. The provincial government has approved funding of

$100,000 for the planning and design of the new school.

"We are investing in schools, in students, and in the future of

Saskatchewan," Learning Minister Jim Melenchuk said. "The Cabri School has

served students very well for close to 50 years. However, the time has

come to build a new school and provide a more modern educational facility."

The planning and design work will take close to a year. Construction could

start in the spring of 2003. Saskatchewan Learning will share the cost

with the Prairie West School Division. The school division is also working

with the community to seek funding, which will help expand the new school

for community use.

"This project is part of the government's commitment to invest in modern,

well-equipped learning facilities for Saskatchewan students," Melenchuk

added.

With $40 million in the Department of Learning capital budget for schools,

approximately 140 school construction, renovation and upgrading projects

will be funded in communities around the province this fiscal year. An

additional $20 million over four years is available for school facilities

from the Centenary Fund.
