Construction will soon begin at Westview Community School in Prince Alberton phase two of the school and should be completed in time for the 2003-04
school year.
"We are investing in schools, in students and in the future of
Saskatchewan," Learning Minister Jim Melenchuk said. "Westview Community
School was officially opened in 2000 when phase one was completed. Now we
are expanding the school to accommodate students in grades six, seven, and
eight."
The project will add space for administration, library, a gymnasium and
classrooms. The remodelling will focus on community school functions,
counselling and arts education. The cost of the project is $2.5 million
and will be shared by Saskatchewan Learning and the Saskatchewan Rivers
School Division.
"This project is part of the government's commitment to invest in modern,
well-equipped learning facilities for Saskatchewan students," Melenchuk
added.
With $40 million in the Department of Learning capital budget for schools,
approximately 140 school construction, renovation and upgrading projects
will be funded in communities around the province this fiscal year. An
additional $20 million over four years is available for school facilities
from the Centenary Fund, which was announced in 2000.
