ADDITION TO MARSHALL SCHOOL

Released on July 2, 2002

Construction on the second phase of an addition at Marshall School may

begin as soon as the fall, and will be completed in time for the 2003-04

school year.

"We are investing in students, in schools and in the future of

Saskatchewan," Learning Minister Jim Melenchuk said. "Marshall Elementary

School has served students very well for close to 50 years. However, the

time has come to upgrade this school and provide a more modern educational

facility."

The older, two-storey section of the school will be demolished and

replaced. Phase one of this project included relocatable classrooms and a

resource room, and was completed in 2000. Phase two will include new

classrooms to enhance the Fine Arts and other Practical and Applied Arts

programs, mechanical work and tutorial space as well as renovations to

existing administrative space. Construction costs for Phase two will be

determined in the next few months and will be shared by Saskatchewan

Learning and the Battle River School Division.

"This project is part of the government's commitment to invest in modern,

well-equipped learning facilities for Saskatchewan students," Melenchuk

added.

With $40 million in the Department of Learning capital budget for schools,

approximately 140 school construction, renovation and upgrading projects

will be funded in communities around the province this fiscal year. An

additional $20 million over four years is available for school facilities

from the Centenary Fund, which was announced in 2000.
