Grading is taking place on 15.6 km of Highway 135 north of Jan Lake."We are maintaining our focus on fixing the roads," Highways and
Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "Highway 135 is the link to the
northern communities of Pelican Narrows and Sandy Bay. We are grading this
section to improve driver safety, by straightening the alignment and
increasing driver sight distances."
The $2.2 million grading project is now underway. The project will require
an estimated 33 full-time workers, and should be completed by June.
Construction of a subgrade on Highway 135 will take place from the junction
of Highway 106, and continue 15.1 km north. In addition, improvements will
be made to the intersection of the Jan Lake access.
North American Rock and Dirt Inc. of Prince Albert was awarded this grading
project.
This project was identified in the 2001/2002 Winter Tender Schedule for
Saskatchewan highway work, worth an estimated $86.8 million. The Winter
Tender Schedule ensures timely and efficient delivery of highway
improvements this spring.
The department's budget this year is a record $311.7 million, which will
help to resurface and upgrade 550 km of rural and northern highways.
