A tender has been awarded for resurfacing 20.6 km of Highway 13 west ofPangman this construction season.
"We are maintaining our focus on fixing the roads," Highways and
Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "Work for this $2.5 million
resurfacing project will begin in early July and should be completed by
late August. Completion of this job will require an estimated 44 full-time
workers."
The improvement project on Highway 13 will begin 5 km west of the junction
with Highway 6, and continue 20.6 km west. The project will end
approximately 1 km west of Ogema. Work began this week on gravel crushing
and stockpiling in preparation for construction.
Carmacks Enterprises Ltd. was awarded the resurfacing contract.
"Highway 13 has experienced an increase in truck traffic, leading to
rutting and rough sections on this highway," Wartman said. "We are
resurfacing it to repair the deterioration which has taken place in recent
years. Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation is working hard to fix
roads across the province to improve driver safety."
This project was identified in the 2001/2002 Winter Tender Schedule for
Saskatchewan highway work, worth an estimated $86.8 million. The Winter
Tender Schedule ensures timely and efficient delivery of highway
improvements this spring.
The department's budget this year is a record $311.7 million, which will
help to resurface and upgrade 550 km of rural and northern highways.
