A tender has been awarded for resurfacing 8.4 km of Highway 11 northeast ofMacdowall this construction season.
"We are maintaining our focus on fixing the roads," Highways and
Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "Road work for this $680,000
resurfacing project is anticipated to begin in early May, and should be
completed by late September. Completion of this job will require an
estimated 24 full-time workers."
The improvement project on Highway 11 will begin 2.3 km north of the
Macdowall access and will continue north for 8.4 km. Work will begin this
week on gravel crushing, haul and stockpiling in preparation for
construction.
Potzus Paving and Road Maintenance Ltd. of Yorkton was awarded this
resurfacing project.
"Highway 11 has seen an increase in truck traffic, leading to wear and tear
on this highway," Wartman said. "We are resurfacing a section of this
highway as it has deteriorated over the past number of years. Saskatchewan
Highways and Transportation is working hard to fix roads across the
province and improve driver safety."
This project was identified in the 2001/2002 Winter Tender Schedule for
Saskatchewan highway work, worth an estimated $86.8 million. The Winter
Tender Schedule ensures timely and efficient delivery of highway
improvements this spring.
Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's budget this year is a record
$311.7 million, which will help to resurface and upgrade 550 km of rural
and northern highways.
